Thinking of buying a scooter?

So, you're about about to buy your first scooter. Here are a few pointers to help you on your way:

1. Get your licence. The RTA and VicRoads run special courses for scooter and motorcycle riders, so book in with them at your local registry. If the waiting list is lengthy, it's sometimes useful to ask if another centre (further afield) has a shorter queue. If you are prepared to travel they can often get you through faster. FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Q. Do I need a licence to ride a scooter?
A. In NSW and Victoria -- Yes. The regualtions in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia allow car licence holders to ride scooters less than 50cc (49.5) as it is in Europe.

Q. Should I consider a used or new scooter?
A. No doubt a used scooter is less expensive than a new one, however, there is an exposure in selecting a used scooter, as the same applies to cars. New scooter has all new parts and a lengthy warranty. In many cases the used scooter will have a limited warranty. Consider that tires, brakes, batteries etc. all have a limited life span. This may cause the purchaser to spend more funds on after purchase than when buying a new scooter. Zoot Scooters models are priced very competitively to other manufacturers scooters. It is more logical to spend less money on a new Zoot Sccoter than slightly less for a used one with unknowns.

Q. What about accessories for riding a scooter?
A. Zoot Scooter retail outlets offer a range of helmets, gloves, jackets and wet weather gear which are priced well within your anticipated budget. It is important to consider your safety, protecting your head in a good helmet, rather than deciding on price, only.

Q. Ancillary costs for insurance & registration?
A. Registration in NSW is much less than in Victoria. NSW RTA charges around $97 for registration + 3% Stamp Duty. Insurance for scooters is available from many sources and Zoot Scooter staff will assist you in your selection process. Zoot Scooter will assist you in all the processes to register your newly purchased Zoot Scooter; registration, insurance. green slip, and delivery of the scooter to your home, if you wish to take this option.
